- INSTRUCTION OF USE:
➢ Specification: Apply the floor coating using MC-Floor 1022, a two-component, solvent-based Epoxy coating, with a spray gun, brush, or roller. Apply a minimum of two coats.
➢ Surface preparation: It is essential that MC-Floor 1022 is applied to sound, clean, dry substrates in order to achieve maximum adhesion between the floor coating and substrate. Because MC-Floor 1022 is a relatively thin coating, the substrate must be fine textured. Any surface irregularities may show through causing excessive wear on high spots and changing the perceived colour of the coating.
– New concrete floors: These should normally have been placed for at least 28 days and have a moisture content of less than 5%. Floors should be sound and free from contamination such as oil and grease, mortar and paint splashes or curing compound residues. Excessive laitence can be removed using grinding or sandblasting/sandblasting methods. Dust and other debris should then be removed by vacuum cleaning.
– Old concrete floors: A sound, clean substrate is essential to achieve maximum adhesion. Remove laitance by light mechanical scabbling, grinding or grit/captive blasting. Oil and grease penetration should be removed by the use of a proprietary chemical degreaser or by hot compressed air treatment.
– Epoxy flooring: MC-Floor 1022 can be applied to MC epoxy resin flooring. Any raised edges or fly marks must be scrubbed clean of dust, and other debris must be removed by vacuuming.
➢ Mixing: The two main components of MC-Floor 1022, the base component and the hardener, must be stirred separately before mixing. Then, the entire hardener portion must be poured into the container of base component, and the mixture thoroughly stirred for at least 3 minutes.
– Mixing should be done using a high-powered, slow-speed, explosion-proof or pneumatic mixer with a specialized impeller to ensure efficiency. Mix according to the manufacturer’s packaging ratio, and ensure all remaining material is removed from the containers. No diluent solvents should be added during mixing.
➢ Application: MC-Floor 1022 should be applied to prepared surface using airless spray, brush or lambswool roller. Ensure that the area is completely coated and ‘ponding’ of the material does not occur.
➢ Maintenance: The service life of a floor can be considerably extended by good housekeeping practices. Regular cleaning of MC-Floor 1022 may be carried out using a rotary scrubbing machine with a water miscible cleaning agent or by hot water washing at temperatures up to 50°C.
➢ Cleaning: MC-Floor 1022 should be removed from tools and equipment with MC-Thinner EP immediately after use. Hardened material can only be removed mechanically.
➢ Remarks:
– Do not apply MC-Floor 1022 to surfaces showing signs of or at risk of reverse moisture absorption.
– Do not apply MC-Floor 1022 to asphalt floors, PVC tiles, or PVC underlayment.
– Like all other epoxy materials, MC-Floor 1022 may experience slight color changes over time if exposed to harsh environmental conditions. However, this color change does not affect the product’s protective performance.
– Do not apply MC-Floor 1022 when the ambient temperature is below 5°C or the air humidity is above 85%.
